The Impact of Disability Management Programs on Employers and Employees: A Canadian Perspective

2001 ~ 108 pp ~ ISBN 0-9738181-2-3

In 1998, the Netherlands introduced The Dutch Reintegration Act which, from a legislative perspective, put the country in the forefront of the world in accommodating workers with disabilities in the workplace. The Dutch law set out to protect “All job seekers who are not able to find new work or to continue their former job because of illness or injury.”

Within this climate of commitment to workplace accommodation of injured or ill individuals, a graduate student from the University of Maastricht in the Netherlands chose to study disability management principles for her thesis.

With disability management still in its infancy in the Netherlands, she turned to Canada as a country with a reputation for highly developed DM models. She approached NIDMAR, known for its leading edge research in the DM field. During 2000, she conducted research for her thesis using NIDMAR as her base. The results of her research are published in this document.
