Terry Bogyo

Terry Bogyo is Director of Corporate Planning and Development for WorkSafeBC (Workers’ Compensation Board of British Columbia). His current responsibilities include environmental scanning, strategic planning and inter-jurisdictional comparisons. Terry's career in workers’ compensation spans more than 27 years and includes frontline and management positions in claims and rehabilitation. Terry earned his B.Sc. from the University of British Columbia, has a special certificate in Public Administration from the British Columbia Institute of Technology and received his MBA from Simon Fraser University. Terry is a Registered Rehabilitation Professional (RRP) and a Canadian Certified Rehabilitation Counsellor (CCRC). He is a frequent commentator on workers’ compensation issues, a regular contributor to various workers’ compensation publications, and a sought after speaker on future work-related risks and challenges.

Chris Borzecki

Chris currently works as Program Manager, Safety and Emergency Preparedness, developing policies and procedures, looking after risk management in terms of staff liability and responsible for the development and implementation of emergency preparedness programs. This position is with the Ottawa-Carleton District School Board which has some 150 schools, 6,000 to 7,000 employees and some 70,000 full time students. Investigating fires and fatalities is also part of the position duties. Prior to this, Chris worked as the Supervisor of Occupational Health and Safety with the school board dealing with daily OH&S issues in the board. Before coming to the school board, Chris worked at the provincial level with the Education Safety Association of Ontario as field consultant for Eastern Ontario. Chris has also worked as the OH&S Coordinator at the post-secondary level. Chris has made numerous presentations in occupational health and safety at the provincial level for ESAO, and the IAPA as well as other groups. Chris is a member of the Board of Canadian Registered Safety Professionals, having obtained his CRSP status in 1994 and since that time has been the Regional Screening Centre Chair for Eastern Ontario with the BCRSP. He also received the volunteer of the year award in 2003 with the BCRSP. Chris is also a certified fire and explosion investigator with the National Association of Fire Investigators. Chris teaches at the college level having developed two online courses, Fire Protection and Industrial Hygiene, and has been teaching them since that time. Chris graduated at the college level in bio-chemistry and has his occupational health and safety certificate from Ryerson University.

Patricia Boucher

Patricia Boucher has a BHSc(N) and a Masters degree in Health Service Management. She is a Certified Disability Management Professional (CDMP), a Canadian Certified Occupational Health Nurse (COHN), and a Canadian Registered Safety Professional (CRSP). She has over 30 years of experience in the community and healthcare sector, 20 years of which have been in the field of occupational health, safety, wellness and disability prevention and management. She has presented at various health and safety related conferences and is the Program Manager and lead faculty for the Disability Management Certificate Program at Mohawk College. Patricia is Principal of Boucher Consulting Services where she is contracted as the Interim Executive Director for the Advanced Gerontological Education Inc.

Michael Catchpole

Michael Catchpole has a PhD in Developmental/Cognitive Psychology from the University of British Columbia. He has been a lecturer and instructor since 1978 in psychology, interpersonal communications, counseling and research methods. Michael was in part-time private practice providing psychological services and is a full-time instructor at North Island College in BC. He is a registered psychologist in BC, is a member of the BC Psychological Association and the Canadian Psychological Association. He is past chair of the Instructional Technology Council, an affiliated Council of the American Association which represents approximately 300 colleges, universities and corporations on distance education and telecommunications issues. Over the years, Michael has presented numerous papers and workshops both in person and via television.

Patti Coates

Patti Coates is a Certified Disability Management Professional (CDMP), a Certified Return to Work Coordinator (CRTWC), is a Registered Nurse with a specialty in Occupational Health, a Registered Rehabilitation Professional (RRP), and a Certified Canadian Rehabilitation Counsellor (CCRC). Patti has worked in the field of disability management/return to work both in the public and private sectors for many years and is currently employed at the Region of Halton, Services for Seniors Division, providing Occupational Health Nursing and Disability Management Services. Patti is an instructor for the Return to Work Coordinator Program at Mohawk College in Ontario and is a faculty instructor for the Occupational Health and Safety Diploma Program at McMaster University.

Karen Cooling

Karen Cooling has a Masters degree in Environmental Education and Communications from Royal Roads University. Karen is currently a National Staff Representative with Unifor and is assigned to communications and education in BC. Karen worked for the Communications, Energy and Paperworkers Union of Canada (CEP) for the past 12 years, and represented the CEP on the Climate Justice Project of the Canadian Centre for Policy Alternatives. She has developed and delivered many workshops related to environmental and labour topics, and has sat on various committees for the BC Federation of Labour and was National Secretary Treasurer for the Confederation of Canadian Unions.

Garry Corbett

Garry Corbett has a PhD in Psychology, is a Certified Disability Management Professional (CDMP), and has a CCRC designation. He is a past president of the Canadian Association of Rehabilitation Professionals. Garry has worked in the public and private sectors for over 20 years assisting individuals with disabilities to enter and/or re-enter the workforce. He was a senior Vocational Rehabilitation Manager for the Workers Compensation Board of British Columbia and is the principal of a private organization in Winnipeg which provides DM and RTW services. Garry has presented at many conferences and seminars and has been an instructor for Douglas College, the University College of the Fraser Valley, and an adjunct professor for Springfield University and the University of British Columbia.

Viraj Desai

Viraj Desai has a BSc in physiotherapy and an MBA from the University of Toronto. She began her career providing clinical care to clients and then moved to take on management positions in the rehabilitation area at a number of hospitals across Toronto. Her most recent leadership position was as President of a private sector healthcare organization providing rehab services to assist clients in returning to work and function. Viraj currently runs her own consulting practice and has held a status appointment as lecturer at the University of Toronto.

Peter Eastwood

Peter Eastwood was called to the British Columbia Bar in 2003 and practices in the areas of labour and employment law. He is located in Vancouver, BC with the firm of Hamilton Howell Bain & Gould. He is listed in the Canadian HR Reporter's Employment Lawyers Directory of the Top Employment Law and Immigration Law Practitioners in Canada. Peter is co-founder of the CoRe (Conflict Resolution) Clinic at UBC, which provides low-cost mediation and dispute resolution services to people in the community who would otherwise not be able to afford it. He regularly makes presentations and has authored numerous articles.

Phyllis Gabriel

Phyllis Gabriel is a Psychiatric Rehabilitation Therapist and Vocational Counselor trained at New York University in NY. She has worked as a Psychiatric Rehabilitation Therapist in US community–based social service agencies as well as in mental health care facilities. Phyllis has worked directly with individuals and employers regarding job placement, job development, job retention and the many return to work issues that an employee who has a mental health problem or disability may face upon returning to work. She recently worked for the International Labour Organization (ILO) in Geneva, Switzerland as a Vocational Rehabilitation Specialist and while there, Phyllis was involved in a number of studies examining the impact of work related stress and mental health issues in the workplace.

Daryl Gauthier

Daryl Gauthier has a Bachelors degree in Social Sciences and a BA in Philosophy. He also has a Masters degree in Divinity and an MA in Theology. Additionally, he has completed various executive educational programs and has achieved the Certified Disability Management Professional (CDMP) as well as the Certified Human Resources Professional (CHRP) designations. Daryl recently joined the Canadian Institutes of Health Research (CIHR) as Head of Human Resources. As a former Director of Human Resources at Canada Post, Daryl lead significant transformational projects for the organization. He was the 2012 Mercer Vision Award winner for Human Resources Innovation sponsored by the HR Professional Association of Ontario, Ottawa Chapter.

Stefan Ginder

Stefan is a Certified Disability Management Professional (CDMP), has a Bachelor of Arts degree in psychology, and several post graduate certificates in project management, human resources, business, industrial relations and disability management. He had over 25 years of human resources experience and directed the Disability Management Centre of Excellence for Canada Post prior to working as a DM Consultant. As Director in charge, he was responsible for the establishment, integration and maintenance of illness and disability standards, program procedures and best practices for the Disability Management Program. This included the administration of Duty to Accommodate and Return to Work Programs, managing absenteeism programs, evaluating program performance, providing training and communication, managing transitional work programs, long term disability administration and supplier management.

Manjit Grewal

Manjit Grewal is a Registered Nurse and an Occupational Health Nurse, specializing in the field of Disability Management. She has worked for the private and public sectors including a variety of government agencies, both unionized and non-unionized. She has a Bachelor of Science in Nursing from the University of British Columbia; a Masters of Education, specialization in Community Rehabilitation and Disability Studies from the University of Calgary; and in 2007, she completed her law degree from the University of British Columbia. Manjit works as a Consultant for the Vancouver Coastal Health Authority and she co-edited and co-authored a book entitled "Disability Claims Management" in 2002.

Sandra Guarascio

Sandra Guarascio is a partner of Roper Greyell LLP, a firm specializing in workplace law including labour, employment, human rights and immigration. Sandra is an experienced facilitator who has conducted numerous presentations and training workshops on various human rights issues and has authored many articles. Sandra clerked with the British Columbia Supreme Court and is currently completing a Masters in Public Administration through the University of Victoria.

Christine Guptill

Christine Guptill completed an MS in occupational therapy at Western Michigan University in 2000, and a PhD in rehabilitation sciences at Western University in London, ON in 2010. This was followed by post doctoral research at McMaster University investigating the health of musicians. She also completed the Work Disability Prevention CIHR Strategic Training Program at the University of Toronto. Christine has taught in the schools of Health Studies and Occupational Therapy, and in the Faculty of Music at Western University. Her current clinical practice includes occupational health and safety, musicians' health and community rehabilitation.

Michelle Henry

Michelle Henry is a partner in the Toronto office of Borden Ladner Gervais LLP as part of their Labour and Employment Group, as well as the Pension and Benefits Group. Michelle advises clients on a wide range of employment-related matters and issues pertaining to human rights. She is a frequent speaker at client and professional seminars and has authored numerous articles on various labour, employment, education and pension topics. She volunteers with Volunteer Legal Services and has over the years sat on the Board of Directors for various organizations.

Sandra Hobson

Sandra Hobson completed her BSc (OT) at Queen's University and obtained a Masters in Adult Education from St. Francis Xavier University. Sandra began her career at the Worker's Compensation Board of New Brunswick, however the majority of her career was spent teaching occupational therapy at the University of Western Ontario. She has been recognized for her educational and philanthropic work by being awarded an honorary doctorate, an excellence in teaching award, and a fellowship award.

Rhonda Johnson

Rhonda Johnson has a BA Hon (Honours English), a Masters of Business Administration, and an LLB from the University of Alberta. She is a practicing lawyer and has delivered seminars for the Continuing Legal Education Society of Alberta, and has been a sessional instructor in the Faculty of Law at the University of Alberta and in the Business Department at North Island College.

Erich Knuelle

Erich Knuelle is an Occupational Health Physician responsible for Disability Management and Occupational Health Systems for the Ford Motor Company of Cologne, Germany and he is also a Certified Disability Management Professional (CDMP). He was instrumental in the overall development of Ford's comprehensive disability management program, which achieved the "IDMSC Certified" designation in addition to several other prestigious awards and has been written up in numerous journals, both nationally and internationally.

Nicola MacNaughton

Nicola MacNaughton is a Certified Disability Management Professional (CDMP), a Certified Return to Work Coordinator (CRTWC), an Occupational Therapist with over ten years experience working with the Workplace Health, Safety and Compensation Commission (WHSCC) of New Brunswick, and is the owner of a private practice, Occupational Concepts, which offers rehabilitation services. She has been involved in a project with the WHSCC offering disability management awareness training to employers across New Brunswick. The thesis for Nicola's Masters in Occupational Therapy was the evaluation of a disability management program from a client-centred perspective.

Donal McAnaney

Donal McAnaney has a PhD in Educational Psychology from McGill University. Until recently, Donal was Director of Research, Innovation and Business Excellence for the Rehab Group of Ireland. He is a part-time lecturer and Associate Researcher in the Centre for Disability Studies at the University College of Dublin, is an Adjunct Professor for San Diego State University Interwork Institute, and is on the Academic Council for the European Rehabilitation Academy in Brussels. Donal has completed numerous research projects on a national and international level and is published extensively.

Linda Nkemdirim

Linda Nkemdirim has a nursing background, a Bachelor of Commerce Degree, a Master of Science Degree in Health Care Administration and is a Certified Disability Management Professional (CDMP). She has over 10 years experience in various aspects of Disability Management from both the public and private sectors. Linda was Manager, Occupational Health Services, Canadian Pacific Railway and was instrumental in the development of their program at a national level which achieved "IDMSC Certified".

Fergal O'Hagan

Fergal O’Hagan has a BSc in physical education from the University of Saskatchewan, an MSc in Adapted Human Biodynamics from McMaster University, and a PhD in Kinesiology and Exercise Science on the subject of work adaptation of people with cardiac illness from the University of Toronto. He is an assistant professor in the Department of Psychology at Trent University. Prior to completing his doctorate at the University of Toronto, Fergal carried out clinical work in rehabilitation and kinesiology. He has researched and written extensively about the challenges facing injured workers including issues of chronic pain and depression. He participated in the Work Disability Prevention Strategic Training Program at the Université de Sherbrooke funded by the Canadian Institutes for Health Research and was also part of the Research Action Alliance on the Consequences of Work Injury initiative.

Joanna Rankin

Joanna Rankin has a Masters of Education in Community Rehabilitation and Disability Studies and is currently finalizing her PhD with York University. She is a vocational rehabilitation consultant with WorkSafeBC. She has been involved in the research and preparation of materials designed to educate the public about social, economic and cultural rights. She has worked as a vocational counsellor for adults with disabilities who were seeking work.

Valerie Royle

Valerie Royle holds MBA and B.Comm. (Hons) degrees, is a Certified Disability Management Professional (CDMP) and is the President/CEO of the Yukon Workers’ Compensation Health and Safety Board. Valerie came to the Yukon Board from her previous position with the Workplace Health and Safety Compensation Commission of Newfoundland and Labrador. Valerie is also a lecturer at Memorial University of Newfoundland in the areas of marketing, business communications, organizational theory and organizational behaviour.

Carmine Tiano

Carmine Tiano has a MA from York University, a Diploma in Regulatory Law and is a graduate of McMaster University's Occupational Health program. He is currently employed with the Ontario Building Trades, which is an umbrella organization representing 13 international construction unions with 122 locals in Ontario covering 150,000 construction workers.

Grace Ukasoanya

Grace Ukasoanya received a PhD from the Rehabilitation Counsellor Education Program at Michigan State University. She is currently working as a therapist with the Dr. Svec Institute of Psychological Services in Chatham, Ontario where she provides assessment and evaluative services, develops treatment approaches, and provides pain management coaching and psychotherapy. She has worked in counselling, assessment and vocational rehabilitation with a variety of service providers in Canada and the United States.

Sari Wiens

Sari Wiens is partner in the law firm, Harris & Company. She advises employers on a wide range of education law, labour, employment and human rights matters. She acts regularly as counsel before arbitration boards, the Human Rights Tribunal, Labour Relations Board and other administrative tribunals. Prior to joining Harris & Company in 2002, Sari Wiens practised in the area of labour law and worked with the Health Employers Association of B.C. (HEABC) as a Labour Relations Consultant. She received a B.A. in International Relations from the University of British Columbia in 1990 and an LL.B. from the University of British Columbia in 1993. She was called to the British Columbia Bar in 1994.

Susan Yates

Susan Yates is a Certified Disability Management Professional (CDMP), a Certified CBDMA Auditor, and an Occupational Therapist with over 20 years experience in workplace rehabilitation and risk management. Susan has supplemented her professional development by completing post graduate studies in Risk Management. She has worked in the public and private sectors to implement and improve injury and risk management programs and strategies. In the public sector in New South Wales (NSW), Australia, Susan has worked in the health, education and policy areas culminating in the design and delivery of the NSW Treasury Managed Fund Psychological Injury Risk Management Strategy. This work was used to inform and guide the NSW Government Strategy "Leading Well" launched in 2007. She has published and presented papers in Australia and overseas on injury management and workplaced based rehabilitation programs. Susan is Principal Consultant of Yatesrisk, providing injury and risk management advisory and project services to insurers and government clients in Australia.
